Parsing Custom Fields

Often, users will have custom field information embedded in their data. For example, a project code might be embedded in the project name through a notation of [A54], or a sales channel might be embedded in a deal name through Channel : Deal Name. Easy Insight can automatically try to detect and guide you through setup of these custom fields.

Auto discovery of parsed custom fields currently works for Basecamp 2, Basecamp 3, Pivotal Tracker, Redbooth, and Teamwork. To get started, go to your data source. In the Getting Started actions, you'll see 'Look for Custom Fields' as an option:

Custom Field Start

From here, the screen will guide you into walking through any fields found that match the various standard types of parsing. Right now, the screen will look for the following types of patterns:

  • [ABC] Rest of Project Name is parsed out as ABC
  • (ABC) Rest of Project Name is parsed out as ABC
  • ABC - Rest of Project Name is parsed out as ABC
  • ABC | Rest of Project Name is parsed out as ABC
  • ABC : Rest of Project Name is parsed out as ABC

The setup screen gives you the option to choose the field name and choose the field type as either a text value (a Grouping) or a numeric value (a Measure):

Import Users

Once done, your new fields will be available like any other for selection in the report editor.
